Inexpensive Home Updates

I decided it was time for another blog post. It has been difficult to find the time to blog lately with 2 little ones! Having a newborn, three-nager, a crazy dog and traveling husband is so much harder than I thought! Coffee is my new best friend 😂.  However, I miss blogging and building like crazy!! So here I am holding my newborn, typing a blog post with one hand, listening to my beautiful three year old snore and enjoying a glass of wine because this is what I love! Super busy but I make time for the things I love so I hope you enjoy this. On to the good stuff!!

It is no surprise that I’m always looking for inexpensive ways to update our home so I thought I would share them with you! Naturally these are all DIY and they do take some time and effort but they are so worth it!! I have done all of these to our home and cannot get over how different it all looks!

Number 1: Update your trim. All of the baseboards and crown moulding in our house was an off white color that I really didn’t love. It didn’t go well with the grey color of paint I did on the walls and I knew it needed updated. So I found the color I wanted which is Bleached Linen by Behr and I started tackling all the moulding! I taped off the flooring and walls before hand and it made it much easier to paint quickly. All you need to do this is paint, paint brush, painters tape and time 😊. What’s also nice is that you can do one room at a time and it’s a very inexpensive update with a big impact!

Number 2: Remove popcorn ceilings. This is a big job but so worth it! We did our entire first floor for under $300. I have another blog post all about how to do this and what supplies you will need! This brightens up the room and makes it look so much cleaner!! It’s a very messy job but in the end you will be so happy you did this.

Number 3: Update you outlets and wall plates. All over our house was almond colored light switches and wall plates with a few gold ones thrown in there 😳. You can buy big bulk packages of the covers and switches which makes this very affordable! Plus if you have someone who is savvy with electrical it can all be done DIY! This really brought our house out of the 80’s and into 2016!

Number 4: Update your cabinet hardware. By simply switching our your hardware you can change the whole look of your kitchen and cabinets! Amazon has great options and this will make a big impact! Here’s a few of my favorites!

Number 5: Paint. I am a big paint fan (if you couldn’t tell)! A new paint color can completely transform a space. It can make a room fee bigger, warmer and more inviting. For less than $50 you can completely change the feel of a space. Here are a few of my favorite paint colors:

Cathedral Grey by Behr
Repose Grey by Sherwin Williams
Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams
Bleached Linen by Behr
Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore
Tip before painting an entire room is to get a sample! It will save you so much time and heart ache! 😂 I have painted an entire room and then hated it! Seriously just paint a small amount on the wall, live with it a few days and then decide. You will be so thankful in the long run!

Just look at what a difference updating the paint, outlet covers, trim, and removing the popcorn ceilings can make!
