Easy DIY Swag Light

IMG_3182

I don’t know about anyone else but I have a hard time finding the right lamp for my space plus I can’t wrap my head around spending a lot on one that my child will likely break anyway.  So for quite awhile I avoided buying lamps (sigh)…What if I told you I found a super amazing solution to this that has rustic farmhouse flair?! Ta-Da!

This is the easiest 20 minute DIY project! I love the farmhouse look this adds to our bedroom and for under $20!! Who doesn’t love an inexpensive light fixture?! Here is what you’ll need:

Materials:

  • 1 – 1x2x4′ pine board
  • 1 plug in swag light
  • 1 Edison bulb
  • Nail Gun (Ryobi is my go to)
  • 1 1/2″ Nails
  • Wood Glue

Step 1: Cut your 1×2″ pine boards down to 2  12″ boards and 1  4″ board cut at 45 degrees (so it looks like a trapezoid).

Step 2: Attach your 2 12″ boards using wood glue and your nail gun as shown.

Step 3: attach your 4″ mitered piece as shown using wood glue and your nail gun.

Step 4: Sand and stain/paint! I used this Minwax Gel Stain and love it! (ignore my toaster and ugly kitchen shot but as a stay at home mom you just have to do what you can where you can 😜)

I purchased my swag light and edison bulb at World Market and had a 15% off coupon so it was even less. Plus I used scrap wood I had at home so this project was so inexpensive and exactly the look I was going for! It is very easy to change up the look by adding a lightweight lamp shade.  After it is built just hang it on the wall and wrap the light around it and you’re done! Super easy and beautiful DIY light fixture!
