DIY Artwork Hangers

While visiting my sister and her boys in Florida we always manage to find a fun project to take on! Last visit it was an awesome media console for the boy’s loft and this time these cute wire dinosaur artwork hangers for my nephew’s room! He LOVES all things dinosaurs and always wants to look through his artwork so we found a way to incorporate both of those in this fun DIY project. Now he can display his beautiful artwork proudly without his mama hanging all of these on the fridge. 🙂

This is a super easy DIY project that we completed for under $10! Step by step instructions below for 2 8′ wire picture hangers:

  • 4 – 1x4x4″ wood blocks
  • sand paper
  • hammer
  • 4 small 1″ nails
  • sawtooth hooks $0.97 at Walmart
  • paint color of choice
  • 4 rubber dinosaurs ($1 each at Walmart in dollar toy section)
  • serrated knife
  • picture hanging wire (we used 9′)
  • super glue
  • 3M Command Strips (optional)

Step 1: Sand and paint the wood blocks whatever color you choose. We had scrap wood at my sisters and just cut those down and painted white with craft paint. So far this project is FREE! Once dry attach the sawtooth hangers to the back using your hammer (if using command strips to hang skip this part).

Step 2: Hammer the nails halfway into the middle of the front of the wooden blocks then wrap the ends of the wire around these nails. You may have to try to straighten your wire before attaching it to the nails so it will hang straight.

Step 3: Cut your rubber dinosaurs in half using the serrated knife. Put super glue around the part you just cut and attach the head to the wooden block covering the nail. I also added some super glue around the dinosaur head once I was holding it in place to dry. Hold it in place while it dries.

Step 4: Hang on the wall! Now you are ready to display your child’s beautiful artwork/pictures!! We also added 3M Command Strips to the bottom of the dinosaur blocks to help hold them in place. You can skip the sawtooth hooks altogether and just use the command strips to make hanging easier.

You can paint the dinosaurs if you have a color scheme or use any type of animals you wants! That’s the beauty of this project, the possibilities are endless! This was perfect for my dinosaur loving artsy nephew. 🙂 During and after hanging his artwork I got lots of hugs and kisses so this was definitely a favorite of mine!
